Update, November 2011

Mockingbird.  Noun. mä-kiŋ-bərd

1. A grayish North American bird related to the thrashers that are known to imitate the notes of other birds.

2. An Innervenus band forged from metal during October of 2008 in Akron Ohio that thrashes and sings a heavy, organic, crunchy song all its own.

If you were unable to attend the Rock Room show they just played, you missed an outstanding show! (Although you can repent on December 3rd m/) Andy’s vocal display was raw, deep and from the bottom of his gut. Such a quiet, laid back guy in person but get him on stage and he transforms into this exploding ball of vocal & crunchy guitar sound. The heavy ambience of Mockingbird’s deep, rugged bass created by Mike is layered with an intense puissant pounding that only Chadd Beverlin can deliver. The Innervenus release IV:014 contains 5 tracks that will almost walk you through a musical journey in your head. Mockingbird’s primary focus is on instrumentation and they write the lyrics around that solid foundation.

IV:014 Mockingbird

This is close to thirty minutes of sound that infuses the listener with a potent fervor. Puma Puncu starts as the shortest track, but is the heaviest along the lines of vocal content. The opening guitar riff in Burdens immediately invokes a feeling of head banging goodness, all the way to the floor stomping drums. The vocals don’t enter until about halfway through this tribal, metal tune and as soon as they do, you feel every bit of the burden. Nephilim captures the essence of the the title with shredding guitar sound reminiscent of a mythical creature; the sound crawling around in the air, slowing into an incredibly sick tangent. Pompeii starts right off with a vocal growl and powerfully takes you almost to the limits of dismal resonation. The bonus track is Trained Apes. This is the longest track on this release and begins with an almost haunting acoustic, crisp melody laid over a myriad of background effects that fit perfectly with the mood of the song. It adds a calm melancholy feel to what can very well become the soundtrack for the mind.

Mockingbird 5 question interrogation

When do you think you’ll be back in the studio laying down some new tracks?

We would really like to be in the studio again between March and May of 2012. It depends on the state of the universe and the alignment of our realities lol.

We plan at this point to head down South to The Jam Room in order to work with Engineer Jay Matheson and Producer Phillip Cope and co-engineer Steve Slavich. We’ve been in contact with them Jay and Phil for various reasons over the last year and are excited about working with them again they’re really good folks down there. We would like to spend a little more time there as we’re hoping to record a lot more material than our last demo.

What do you consider your most profound musical influence as a band?

There really isn’t one. I mean we have such a huge catalog of influences.  literally from all types of music. As for recent times Andy has really gotten me into a lot of Harry Nilsson’s work lately. Great song writer excellent pianist. Mike has been blasting Deicide a lot lately so there you go… a contemporary pop vocalist from the 60′s and 70′s and God bashing death metal… When we hang out the record player go all over from George Jones to the Beatles to ZZ Top to Minor Threat to Napalm Death and Neurosis.

What band would you want to fight crime with?

That’s hard to call…Spinal Tap.

If you could play anywhere, where would it be?

Easy THE DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL in the UK’s Donnington Park!

What is Mockingbird’s favorite color?

That’s easy too: Clear
